James Tarleton is the father of the Tarleton family. He married Beatrice Tarleton and had 7 children.
Beatrice Tarleton is the mother of Tarleton family. She married James Tarleton and had 7 children. She had many prized horses which she donated to the Confederate army in the beginning of the book. She appears the carriage ride to Twelve Oaks, having a conversation with Gerald 'O Hara.
Boyd Tarleton is the oldest child of James and Beatrice Tarleton. He is killed in Virginia in 1861. He only appears in the book, and is only mentioned.
Thomas Tarleton is the second born of James and Beatrice Tarleton. He dies in the Battle of Gettysburg in 1863. He appears in the book, and is only mentioned. He was a Private at the time of his death.
Brent and Stuart Tarleton, the twins. The two are Scarlett's beaux. Their main appearance is at the beginning of the book, in Chapter One. They inform Scarlett that Ashley Wilkes is marrying Melanie Hamilton. Of the Tarleton family, they have the biggest roles. They go off to fight in the war, Brent becoming a lieutenant and Stuart becoming a Corporal. They appear in both the book and the movie. Carreen 'O Hara is told by her sister Scarlett that Brent liked her. It is mentioned that just before Brent left, Carreen and him were engaged. This was never proven, and was only mentioned in the book. Both twins were killed in the Battle of Gettysburg, in 1863. In the 1939 film Gone With the Wind, Brent was played by Fred Crane (1918-2008), and Stuart was played by George Reeves (1914-1959).
Hetty Tarleton is the fifth born of James and Beatrice Tarleton. She does not appear in the movie. Her only appearance is in the carriage ride to Twelve Oaks.
Betsy Tarleton is the sixth born of James and Beatrice Tarleton. She does not appear in the movie. She gets married to an unnamed man prior to or during 1871.
Randa Tarleton is the seventh born and last child of James and Beatrice Tarleton. She does not appear in the movie. She teaches a school later on in the book.
After the war, all of the males in the Tarleton family died except James Tarleton. The Yankees burned their house down and for a long time they were forced to cram themselves into the Overseers house.
