Ella Lorena Kennedy (November 1866) is the daughter of Scarlett O'Hara and Frank Kennedy. She was born approximately in November 1866. She is not very close to her mother, and her father died when she was only two.

Personality[]

Like her brother Wade, Ella is frightened of her mother because of her fits of rage. They also both adore their final step-father Rhett Butler. Ella isn't very bright, and gets easily distracted. When her mother tries to tell her a story, she continuously asks questions, making her inquisitive as well.

As the middle child, she is tragically overlooked. While her stepfather loves her brother dearly and adores his own daughter Bonnie, the only parental figure who loved Ella was her own father who died when she was two. Her relationship to Bonnie is unknown, but Wade doesn't care for her.

Ella also has rage fits like her mother (and her younger sister Bonnie), on one occasion biting her cousin Susie Benteen. Unlike Bonnie, however, Ella is very polite. She is also afraid of almost all animals.

Appearance[]

Ella is described by her mother as a very ugly baby, who only her father Frank finds beautiful. She looks a lot like him. When first meeting her as an infant, Rhett Butler thought she was a boy.

Trivia[]

  • She was named after her recently deceased maternal grandmother, Ellen O'Hara, who Scarlett revered.
  • Her middle name "Lorena" was picked simply because it was the most popular girl name in Atlanta in the year she was born (1866).
  • While on her third honey-moon, Scarlett purchased a coral bracelet for Ella and a Saint Bernhard dog for Wade.
  • Her apparent hatred for her cousin Susie Benteen mirrors their mothers' rivalry.
  • While Ella doesn't appear in the film, she was originally meant to and appeared in a promotional set of paper dolls produced by the studio.
