Dimity Munroe is the younger sister of Alice, Lafe and Sally Munroe. She is also the older sister of Letty and Hugh Munroe. She is the daughter of Evan Munroe and the sweetheart of Alex Fontaine.
Biography[]
During her youth, Dimity and her sister Sally both got along greatly with all three Fontaine boys. Their sister Alice was friends with their grandmother Mrs Fontaine. Their connection grew closer when Sally married Joe Fontaine and gave birth to his son Joe Fontaine Jr. in 1863, just months before Joe Sr. died in The Battle of Gettysburg.
Alex and Dimity were quite fond of each other. Even after Alex lost all his slaves, money and property during the war, Scarlett O'Hara informed him that it wouldn't matter to Dimity. He asked about Dimity's wellfare every time he spoke to her friends. However, after his brother Tony fled to Texas after murdering two men, Alex had to manage his plantation Mimosa all by himself, and couldn't yet propose to Dimity.
Dimity stayed true to Alex for years, but eventually he married his brother's widow Sally...Dimity's sister. It broke Dimity's heart. In Scarlett's words: "But it served her right. If she'd had any gumption she'd have caught her another man long ago, instead of waiting for Alex to get money enough to marry her."

- Dimity has some similarity to Suellen O'Hara. Both of them wait years for their suitors to propose and in the end, the suitors in question marry their widowed older sisters instead (Sally and Scarlett).
