Charles Hamilton was born around 1841, the son of William R. Hamilton and an unknown woman (possibley a Wilkes).
He was the first husband of Scarlett O'Hara, and the father of their son Wade Hampton Hamilton. They married two weeks after the Wilkes' barbecue, where they were engaged.
He died of pneumonia following a bout of measles in camp. He died two months after the war began.
