Gone With the Wind Wiki
CAMKING

Eleanor Cammack "Cammie" King (1934-2010) was the American actress who played Bonnie Butler in Gone With the Wind (1939). She won the role over 250 other actresses.

On set[]

After Diane King was deemed too old to play Bonnie (she was seven), her parents suggested her younger sister Cammie to play Bonnie Blue Butler. Director Victor Flemming said when seeing her: "First they give me an English Scarlett, then a middle-aged Ashley Wilkes and now a brown-eyed Bonnie Blue Butler!".

Cammie was able to remember her lines and got along greatly with her on-screen father Clark Gable. She was distressed to see a middle-aged man who was a dwarf, wear her dress, not understanding at the time that he was her stunt double for the horseriding scenes. When playing Bonnie's corpse, Cammie was unable to keep her eyes from fluttering so a death mask was made.

After Gone With the Wind[]

Cammie was the voice of Faline in Bambi. She studied Communications at the University of Southern California and worked as a production assistant. She often jokingly told her colleagues "I peaked at five". She married Ned Pollock and adopted a son Matthew and a daughter Katherine "Katie" with him before he died in 1968. She later remarried to Michael Conlon in 1971.

In 2009, she privately published a small book, Bonnie Blue Butler: A Gone With the Wind Memoir, mainly selling copies directly to fans via personal appearances and the internet.
