Alicia Rhett (1915-2014) was an American actress and portrait painter, who played India Wilkes in the film adaptation of Gone With the Wind (1939). In the entire cast, Alicia was the only actress who actually came from Georgia.

Alicia first auditioned for Melanie Hamilton and was a serious contender for the role until it went to Olivia de Havilland. Rhett was personally scouted by George Cukor because of her charm and beauty.

  • Author Margaret Mitchell picked the name of Charleston scoundrel Rhett Butler because of the fame the Rhett family had in Charleston. This is the same Rhett family that produced Alicia Rhett.
  • Alicia Rhett once painted Alexandra Ripley, who would later write a sequel to Gone With the Wind.
